Oklahoma Sooners odds: Florida spread, playoff chances and the November stretch

Oklahoma (4-4) is a 6.5-point underdog at No. 24 Florida on Nov. 7. The Sooners' playoff and SEC title chances are effectively gone.

Oklahoma's playoff odds are no longer a real question. At 4-4 overall and 2-3 in SEC play, the Sooners have no realistic route to the College Football Playoff or the SEC Championship Game. The odds that matter now are for single games, starting Saturday at No. 24 Florida, where Oklahoma is a 6.5-point underdog. One note for searchers: this is the Oklahoma Sooners of the SEC, not Oklahoma State, which plays in the Big 12 and has its own odds.

The Oklahoma team page is the full guide to the Sooners' season. This piece covers the week: the line in Gainesville and what the rest of November can still decide.

The line at Florida

Oklahoma plays at Florida on Saturday, November 7, on SEC Network. Our Oklahoma at Florida odds board tracks 12 venues. As of Friday's review, Florida is favored by 6.5 points on Novig, one of those venues. Hard Rock Bet has the shortest line on the board at Florida -5.5.

On the moneyline, Florida is favored at -212 on Novig and Oklahoma is listed at +203. Those prices give the Sooners about a one-in-three chance of winning outright. The total is 45.5 on Novig, with both sides at -104. BetMGM is a point lower at 44.5. Sportsbook hold on the board runs from about 3 to 7 percent depending on the market, so how far apart venues are on price depends on where you look.

How Oklahoma got to .500

The Sooners' season has gone up and down, according to ESPN results. They opened with a 51-0 win over UTEP, lost 17-10 at Michigan, then beat New Mexico 14-6. After a 41-13 loss at No. 2 Georgia came the season's high point, a 27-24 upset of then-No. 1 Texas.

The momentum didn't last. Oklahoma lost 21-13 at home to No. 15 Kentucky, won 23-15 at Mississippi State, and gave up 42 points in a 42-25 home loss to South Carolina last week. That was the most points allowed to an unranked opponent all season.

The offense is the main concern. In five of eight games, Oklahoma scored 14 points or fewer before the South Carolina loss pushed its total past 20 again. A 45.5 total in Gainesville suggests the market does not expect a high-scoring game.

What November can still decide

Three losses in conference play rule out a trip to Atlanta. Five losses overall would end any argument for the 12-team playoff field. The realistic goal is bowl eligibility. Oklahoma needs two more wins to reach six. A win as an underdog in Gainesville would make that much easier. A loss would leave the Sooners needing to win both of their final two games.

The Texas win shows this team can beat a good opponent at home. The Kentucky and South Carolina losses show that it doesn't happen every week. Florida is ranked and at home, and the price reflects that.

Legality

Sports betting is not legal in Oklahoma. Lawmakers have proposed it again and again, but the state has not authorized it. In Florida, adults 21 and over can legally place mobile sports wagers through Hard Rock Bet under the Seminole Tribe's compact with the state. Where real-money sports markets are allowed, the minimum age and the rules depend on state law. Readers should follow the law where they are located.
