No. 2 Georgia went to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday and beat No. 10 Ole Miss 42-7. The game was settled by halftime.

Georgia ran for 295 yards, held the ball for 34:41 and did not turn it over. When Ole Miss crowded the line, Gunner Stockton found Talyn Taylor behind the coverage. Stockton threw only 15 passes, completed nine, and four went for touchdowns.

The Bulldogs are 8-1. Ole Miss falls to 6-3.

How it was won

Georgia scored on its first two possessions. Craig Dandridge ran in from 4 yards at 10:16 of the first quarter. Less than four minutes later, Stockton hit Taylor for a 58-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead.

The second quarter opened with Stockton's 3-yard pass to Ethan Barbour at 14:16. Stockton then scored himself on a 15-yard run with 2:42 left in the half, and Georgia went to the locker room up 28-0. Peyton Woodring converted every extra point.

The third quarter belonged to the defense until late, when Stockton and Taylor connected again from 6 yards at 1:37 to make it 35-0.

Ole Miss finally scored at 10:43 of the fourth on Shekai Mills-Knight's 8-yard run, with Lucas Carneiro adding the kick. Georgia answered 97 seconds later: Stockton to Taylor, 65 yards, 42-7.

The box score tracks with the scoreboard:

  • Total yards: Georgia 481, Ole Miss 252.
  • Rushing: Georgia 295, Ole Miss 66.
  • Third down: Georgia 7 of 12, Ole Miss 6 of 16.
  • Turnovers: Georgia 0, Ole Miss 2.

Stockton finished 9 of 15 for 186 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor had four catches for 140 yards and three scores. Nate Frazier ran 16 times for 107 yards and Dwight Phillips Jr. added 66 on 11 carries. Jaden Reddell caught two passes for 25 yards.

For Ole Miss, Trinidad Chambliss went 18 of 34 for 170 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. Horatio Fields caught eight passes for 96 yards and Caleb Odom had three for 23. Mills-Knight led the ground game with 52 yards on 13 carries. The Rebels moved the chains 19 times but could not finish drives, and the two turnovers took away what chances they had.

Against the number

Georgia closed as a 3.5-point favorite and won by 35, so the spread was never in question after the first half.

The total closed at 56.5. With 49 points scored, the under came in, helped by a scoreless stretch that ran from late in the second quarter until the final two minutes of the third.

On the moneyline, Georgia closed at -175 and Ole Miss at +145. The market expected a competitive game between two top-10 teams; it got a rout. Full closing numbers are on the game page.

What's next

Georgia hosts No. 18 Missouri on Saturday, November 14 (ABC). The Bulldogs have won three of their last four, with the loss a 27-24 decision against Auburn, and this was their most complete performance against a ranked opponent this season.

Ole Miss's next opponent had not been posted in the schedule data available at the time of writing. The Rebels have now lost three games, all to ranked teams, and will need to clean up the turnovers and the run defense before their next outing.
